Fabian Werkmeister

, Managing Director, Werkmeister Labs GmbH

Fabian spent six years studying business administration, which was considered a "safe career path," and worked in business for another two years before realizing that this wasn't the right path for him. The turning point came with a line of code in SPSS—after that, it was clear that he belonged on the tech side. He quit his job, did a data boot camp, and started as a trainee at FUNKE Mediengruppe. There, he progressed from trainee to senior data engineer in five years. Since early 2026, he has been self-employed, building minimalist data systems for SMEs. His philosophy: less complexity, more impact. He discovered and cultivated this philosophy in 2024 during a 12-month trip around the world through 14 countries with his backpack, which is also the theme of his slam.

Freelance specialist in irreversible conflict resolution – a data-based aptitude analysis

Gender Data Gap with a difference, An AI-supported skills comparison with surprising results, Why data protection and career dreams are not always compatible. (It gets absurd, funny, and not entirely serious.)

Data Slam #2

How does one actually become a data leader—and how does one get out of it again?

An honest, self-deprecating look at a career that was never really planned: from mediocre high school grades to international stages to a 120-person data octopus—and the moment when you realize that titles don't automatically make you happy. It's about coincidences, bad decisions, big egos (including my own), and why you sometimes have to remove yourself from the organizational chart to enjoy data again.

Data Slam #3

The 90s called, they want their internet back.

When we talk about data democratization, we should first learn how to find our way around the internet again. To illustrate this, I will share some recent examples of misdirected messages that end up in the North Data mailbox (we are often confused with other companies). Data—a rough explanation—the path to it and thus to data democracy.

Data Slam #5

Your data stack has excess baggage!

Anyone who lives out of a backpack for 12 months quickly learns that every extra gram becomes a burden. Fabian draws parallels between rigorously sorting through luggage and designing minimalist data systems. Whether in a suitcase or on our data platforms, we usually end up packing far too much.

Data Slam #6

Dear data... would you like to go out with me?

A declaration of love in front of a full audience? Could it get any creepier?
I hope they don't say no.

Data Slam #7

Data lake or data swamp?!

Elisabeth Kübler-Ross described five stages of grief. She knew nothing about data migration projects. Otherwise, she would have added a sixth stage: "And next week, it all starts again." A slam about foreign key violations, disk full errors, and the question: Why didn't I become a truck driver?

AI in 2026 – Go Pro or Go Home!

A bold statement or bitter reality? Where do we really stand? And if we don't stand there, where are we headed? How do we get there if "Go Pro or Go Home" applies?
