From the Factory Floor to an Agentic Company: Laying the Groundwork for “Talk to Your Data”

Becoming an “agentic company” doesn’t start with models—it starts with data, ownership, and mindset. In this session, we share insights from a manufacturing client that set out to transform distributed ERP systems, machine sensor data, and hybrid on-premises/cloud infrastructures into a unified Data & AI platform on Azure.

We discuss how production data, governance structures, and platform architecture had to evolve in tandem to enable AI agents for predictive maintenance, software engineering support, and data-driven decision-making processes. The project demonstrates that agentic AI rarely fails due to technical limitations. It fails when responsibilities are unclear, data lacks semantic consistency, and organizations treat AI as a tool rather than a transformative force.
