: Making the Right Decisions and Investing Where It Pays Off

Unplanned machine downtime is once again becoming a major concern—not because of a lack of maintenance, but because wear and tear and usage patterns are becoming increasingly difficult to predict.

This webinar is therefore less about “AI” as a buzzword and more about the specific question: “Which failures can already be detected earlier using existing data—and for which machines is the effort not worth it?”

Andree Juranek of Dataciders and Manfred Kügel of SAS provide practical insights into where the greatest potential for predictive maintenance lies:
—in critical systems, costly downtime, and areas where maintenance is still largely driven by fixed intervals or experience. At the same time, we openly discuss limitations, common misjudgments, and unrealistic expectations.

The focus is on real-world industrial conditions: diverse machine fleets, different manufacturers, limited sensor technology, and data from various sources. The approach is deliberately pragmatic—from the first meaningful use case to economically viable scaling.

Main topics

  • Understanding Predictive Maintenance: What It Is and What It Isn’t
  • Which machines are particularly worthwhile: rotating machines, critical assemblies, typical failure modes
  • Limitations and common misconceptions: not everything is predictable, and not every machine is worth the investment
  • Heterogeneous equipment: mix of manufacturers, data formats, OT/IT interfaces
  • Smart use of data sources: PLC/SCADA, energy, power, temperature, vibration, maintenance and fault reports (CMMS/ERP)
  • Retrofitting Sensors: When It Makes Sense, When It Doesn’t – A Pilot Approach Instead of a Large-Scale Project
  • Getting Started: 1–2 use cases, hypotheses, pilot, ROI logic, scaling
  • Quick Demo Overview: Sample Dashboard in SAS Viya (Asset Health, Alerts, Trends)

Target group

  • Head of Maintenance, Maintenance Manager
  • Plant Manager, Technical Manager, Operations Manager
  • Production Manager, Operations Manager
  • Asset Management, Reliability Engineering
  • OT/IT Managers or IT/OT Architects (PLC/SCADA/CMMS)
  • Data & Analytics Leads in Manufacturing Companies
