Decision Intelligence - Making better decisions with data & AI I Series: Data heroes
Video contribution
May 7, 2024
Decision intelligence is currently one of the top technology trends in the field of data & AI. In our interview series "Data Heroes", we had Thorsten Heilig as a guest to discuss the possibilities and developments of decision intelligence. Thorsten is CEO and co-founder of Paretosone of the leading platforms in the sector and co-author of the book "Decision Intelligence".
Thorsten talks about this in an interview with host and Dataciders CEO Gero Presser,
- what is meant by decision-making intelligence,
- how much AI there is in the technology and
- how Decision Intelligence helps companies to make better decisions.
Discrepancy between technology and everyday decisions
As a digital expert for many years in various roles, whether as a systemic management coach or COO at moovel/REACH NOW, Thorsten Heilig has always been fascinated by the discrepancy between technology and everyday decisions in companies. Among other things, this interest led him to focus intensively on the topic of decision intelligence, which led to the founding of Paretos together with co-founder Florian Rang.
Right at the beginning of the interview, he and Gero state that the visions of both companies are almost identical. Both Paretos and Dataciders are concerned that companies should no longer make bad decisions. Thorsten explains: "If you spend a lot of time on the subject, you realize that the difference between right and wrong is not so clear. It's more about optimal or not optimal."
But what exactly is Decision Intelligence all about?
What is Decision Intelligence?
Decision Intelligence, as Thorsten explains, is the art of using data and artificial intelligence to make better, recurring decisions. "Decision Intelligence brings two things together: The topic of decision-making and the technology to make the most intelligent decisions possible." This primarily relates to everyday operational decisions, which are, however, quite complex. By combining decision logic and technology, companies can become more agile and develop into permanently learning organizations.
The role of AI and technology in decision intelligence
When Gero asks how much AI is in Decision Intelligence, Thorsten replies: "There is a lot of AI in it, but the trick is to use the right technologies at the right time for the right purpose." He explains that Paretos uses a variety of AI technologies, including transformer networks and neural networks, to optimize decisions.
Measurable success and potential
One of the advantages of decision intelligence is the measurability of success. Companies can clearly quantify how better decisions affect their performance. In addition, Decision Intelligence also opens up new strategic opportunities and potential that are not necessarily measurable at first, but can lead to sustainable growth in the long term.
Future developments in decision intelligence
When asked what the future holds for decision intelligence, Thorsten predicts that it will become increasingly widespread in various industries. He also expects conversational AI and decision intelligence to merge, which will enable companies to interact even more seamlessly with their data and make better decisions.
Conclusion: Decision intelligence as a transformative driver for companies
Thorsten Heilig is convinced that decision intelligence is not just a trend, but a transformative driver that is fundamentally changing the way companies make decisions. With the right combination of data and artificial intelligence, companies can not only become more agile, but also be successful in the long term.
